BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT ACTIVATES SEAT BASE AT CASPER/NATRONA COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Thursday, August 12, 2010
Casper / Natrona County International Airport has announced activation of a Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) base at the Airport. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Airport entered into an agreement in March of 2009 to establish the SEAT base at the Airport for the operation and servicing of aerial tankers during a fire. The SEAT base was activated due to an increased rate of lightning fires that have taken place during the height of this year’s fire season. A SEAT base includes easily transported mixing tanks filled with fire retardant material and a connection hose to retrieve water from a fire hydrant in order to mix the two liquids as they are loaded into the aircraft. If fires were to occur in a different part of the region, the base could be deactivated and transported to that location.
